Talking Maths in Public
Talking Maths in Public (TMiP) is a network for maths communicators - anyone who works or otherwise participates in communicating mathematics to the public and non-specialist audiences, across a range of formats. TMiP supports experienced practitioners and those new to maths comm, through sharing best practice, resources, training and advice.
Established in 2016 by an independent committee of volunteers from different areas of maths communication, the TMiP community includes professional communicators, researchers, freelancers, event organisers, writers, content creators, academics, civil servants, teachers, people working in industry, volunteers and hobbyists from a wide range of backgrounds.
TMiP has an active WhatsApp chat group, where people can seek advice, share experiences, collaborate and connect with other maths communicators. TMiP also runs a hybrid conference every two years, with workshops, talks and panels provided by expert guests, discussions, networking sessions and chances to share ideas and showcase projects. Its monthly podcast shares advice and opinions from the community, and TMiP provides regular opportunities to explore and develop maths communication practice, such as the Animation Generation Collaboration and the MEGA Grant.
